Can India become the global leader? A look at it's Ambitious Future Targets


India has a number of ambitious future targets across various sectors, aiming to solidify it's position as a global leader.

Here are the some of the major future targets by India,

Economy: 


  • By 2027, India is projected to surpass Germany and Japan to become the world's third largest economy, fueled a growth rate of 6% or more. 
  •  India poised to become global economic powerhouse, aiming for $35 trillion economy by 2047.
  • The RBI sets Inflation targets to maintain price stability. The current target for inflation is 4%(+/-2%), aiming  to balance economic growth with price stability.
  • NITI Aayog aims to create 100 million new jobs by 2030 as part of its vision for inclusive growth and poverty reduction.
  • Make in India Initiative aims to increase the manufacturing sector's share of GDP to 25% by 2025.
  • Government aims to gradually reduce the fiscal deficit (the gap between government revenue and expenditure) as a percentage of GDP.

Sustainability:


  • India aims to achieve 450GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030. As of november 2023 India installed renewable energy capacity of around 175GW.
  • India has pledged to achieve net zero emission by 2070.
  • The government aims for 30% of vehicle sales to be electric by 2030. This target pushes for faster adoption of EVs and reducing dependence on fossil fuels in transportation.
  • Aims to establish a 1 million tonne per annum green hydrogen production capacity by 2030. Green hydrogen  produced using renewable energy, Is seen as promising clean fuel for various sectors.
  • India aims to increase it's forest cover to 33%of it's geographical area by 2030. As of 2021 the total cover of the country is 21.73% of the geographical area.

Science & Technology:


  • In space technology India aims Gaganyaan mission in 2024(To send astronauts to space), Reusable launch vehicle to reduce space mission cost and several other missions to the moon, Mars, Venus.
  • In Defence India aims 80% indigenous procurement by 2027, Developing Indigenous advanced weapons like hypersonic missile, fifth generation fighter jets..etc, Integrating AI into various defence application including autonomous weapons system, cyber systems, and battlefield management.
  • Digital India initiative aims to transform India into digitally empowered society.
  • In Quantum technologies focus on earth and development in quantum computing, communication, and cryptography.
  • National programs aims to develop India's capabilities in AI research and applications across various sectors.

Infrastructure:


Vision to significantly upgrade and expand Infrastructure across various sectors like transportation, energy, water, sanitation and digital connectivity. This aims to boost economic growth, improve access to basic services, and creating jobs.

  • Bharatmala pariyojana program aims to develop a network of 83677km of roads with estimated cost of 10.63lakh crore.
  • 100 Smart cities in India are designated for development under then smart cities mission.
  • The National Infrastructure Pipeline(NIP) outlining infrastructure projects worth over $1.8 trillion for development by 2025.
  • The aim is to increase the number of cities with metro rail system from the current 18 (as of Nov 2023) to potentially 25 by  2025and even reach 100 cities by the 100th year of Independence (2047).
